Show Name: TIWHA's and All-Warhorses' Dancing with Dragons Warhorse Showcase
End Date: March 15, 2014
Type: Open
Disciplines: Jousting, Mounted Combat, Mounted Shooting and Warhorse Freestyle

UPDATE: Now open to all breeds, real and fantasy! Now co-hosted with All-Warhorses!

Eligibility:

+Any breed may enter, real or fantasy
+Horses may not use magic to enhance their performance
+You do not have to be TIWHA or All-Warhorses registered, though they will get a bonus
+Historical warhorse breeds get a bonus
+Previous experience not required, though it will give you a bonus

All events will be single rider vs a target except where otherwise described. As the categories are very broad, riders or horses may enter multiple classes or multiple times per class so long as they are using a different weapon in each entry. Riders and horses are encouraged to enter in armor or costume so long as it does not endanger the horse and any culture or time period is welcome. Head protection is required for all classes.

Setting:

The show is hosted in southern Texas with rolling grasslands and some live oaks scattered around. The three classes will be held simultaneously from dusk until night so your entry may occur at any time from when the sun begins to set to full dark. The sky is clear and mostly cloudless and is far enough from the city that you can see the stars very well. Targets and the path may be weakly lit from the sides or below or not at all, we imagine we'll be moving lights around all night as needed. The poor visibility is meant to add to the challenge, and make the targets seem more real.

Classes:

+Dragon Joust+

Canter or gallop your horse down a short dirt path and attempt to knock down the dragon with your lance! You will have three passes at the dragon, and your runs will be scored on the accuracy of your hits (you should be aiming for the dragon's chest). Bonus for destriers/drafts, penalty for rouncies/light types.

--Dragon: You will be jousting a giant paper mache dragon. The dragon is mounted on a large weeble-wobble, so it will be rocking and swaying mildly as you approach it. As it gets battered over the course of the night it will be repaired with multicolored patches, so the later in the night you joust the more duct tape and colored cardboard "bandages" it will have. Mounted in it's mouth is a flashlight providing a beam of "flame" which you will want to avoid, getting hit with the beam for more than one second will result in penalty points, so be quick!

+Griffin Ranged Combat+

Trot or canter your horse through a field with scattered knee-high grasses. There will be three Griffins along the course with at least one on each side of your path. You are allowed three passes; by the end you will have shot at each Griffin three times. Scoring is based on accuracy with a bonus for your horse's speed. You will be aiming for the Griffins' chests. Bonus for rouncies/light horses, penalty for destriers/drafts. Allowable weapons include bow and arrow, javelin, throwing stars, paintball gun or others. No crossbows or live ammo. Feel free to suggest other weapons you would like to use.

--Griffin: The griffins are painted sackcloth stuffed with straw like a scarecrow. As the night gets later they may have holes in them with straw sticking out from previous runs. Each Griffin is slightly different so you can have some fun with them.

+Mythological Melee+

Assert your skill at melee weapons against an army of assorted monsters! You will be given 5 minutes to knock down as many targets as possible. You will be judged on number of targets knocked over and the number and accuracy of hits. Permissible weapons include swords, spears, clubs, etc. Feel free to suggest additional weapons. Bonus for coursers/heavy horses, penalty for destriers/drafts. This class takes place in a dirt arena with bare-wood fence posts with a stone building along one long side of the arena.

--Targets: They will range from 5 to 7 feet tall. Anything goes; they can be an assortment of mythological creatures including small dragons, griffins, gargoyles, basilisks, centaurs, sphynxes, demons, etc. They will be an assortment of paper mache and painted fabric stuffed with straw. Some will be mounted on weeble-wobble bases for added difficulty. Feel free to design your own.

+Warhorse Freestyle:+

Open event, feel free to show off any warhorse or warhorse related discipline that is not included in the other classes. Suggestions: Mock-combat dressage, bombproofing challenge, mock-bullfighting. These will be judged based on creativity and showing the horse demonstrating skills or attributes required of a warhorse such as speed, agility, strength, bravery, obedience and precision. This class can take place in either a roped-off grassy field or a dirt arena with bare-wood fence posts and a stone building along one side of the arena.

Judging:

Feel free to draw yourself missing a target or having poor accuracy, it will not hurt your score and may get you some points for creativity or story!

25 points: Impact (Wow factor, difficulty level, detail)
25 points: Creativity (lighting, media, style, angle)
10 points: Story (conflict, suspense, character growth, motivation)

Totally Entering with my Nordie girl, her and her trainer love Warhorse stuff. Though im just starting out using her so i might make a quick sketchy training picture to get a feel for it, this makes me excited and there is a lot of time to do this in so yeah! woot woot. She's a natural nordanner so is she considered heavy for this contest since she's spanish built?
